Hi, I’m Tom Rentschler Jr. my wife Julia and I are very proud to be on the advisory board of Experience, which is a tremendous program started by Bret on Krista Parrish,to really augment the programs of the boys and girls club of Hamilton boys and girls club of Hamilton as a passion of the wrench or family and has been for more than 50 years.
My father was involved as a board member and president in the 1960s in the very early days of the club. My brother Mark served before me on the board and as president, I followed him as board president. My wife Julie, my sister in law, Cindy, are on the board currently. So it’s a real natural for us to be interested in Experience. What I love about experience is that it really expands on the programs of the boys and girls club of boys and girls.
The club provides a safe, nurturing place for kids to be after school. But Experience gives them the opportunity to earn to go on these experiences that they might otherwise not normally get to experience in their lives. Things that we might take for granted. For example, a trip to the zoo, a trip to the aquarium, the opportunity to spend a week at the YMCAs camp, Campbell guard, which is a fairly expensive, these are things that we take for granted and we have in our lives, but that kids who are disadvantaged don’t necessarily get these opportunities.
So the genius, I think of Experience is that it really gives kids the opportunity to experience things, that they might ordinarily not. And I think there’s an, a lot of research that I’ve read recently that suggests that what really creates happiness in life is not the possession of material things. It’s actually experiences. It’s actually far more meaningful and far greater contributor to individual happiness. And so it makes us happy, all of us who are involved in Experience to be able to give these children these wonderful experiences.
