Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Marks New Expansion of Strauss Gallery, Regular Public Hours

By: Jeff Gambrell
HAMILTON – In the midst of mass lay-offs and small-business closures nationwide following the fallout from COVID-19, a glimmer of hope shone during Friday afternoon’s ribbon-cutting ceremony in Downtown Hamilton. Artspace Hamilton Lofts, located at 222 High Street, hosted a public reception at 1 PM in celebration of the grand opening of the new Strauss Gift Shop. The new gift shop offers the opportunity for the public to browse smaller, affordable gift options to support local artists while also opening up the gallery space to regular weekly hours when it otherwise would be closed to the public outside of special events.

David Stark, Artspace Property Manager, was actively involved in seeing the Strauss Gift Shop come to fruition. “Ever since we established the Strauss Gallery as a domestic nonprofit in 2018, we have seen the need for a gift shop”, says Stark. “One of the best parts about shopping at the Strauss is that while the vendors maintain the lion share of the proceeds, a portion of that goes back into the Strauss Gallery so that we can continue to offer shows and opportunities for meaningful engagements around the arts at no cost at any of our public events”. The Strauss Gift Shop offers quality gift options including small paintings, prints, drawings, jewelry, coasters, and more. Inventory updates and promotions will be listed regularly on their Facebook page.
Artspace Hamilton Lofts was established in 2015 as a mixed-use arts facility providing forty-two units of affordable live/workspaces for artists and their families. It is a nonprofit event space operated by the residents offering art shows, concerts, community meetings, and much more. The building’s main floor offers a rotating gallery showcasing the artwork of its residents and now adds more flavor with its new gift shop. Regular weekly hours for the gallery/gift shop are Fridays 11-6 and Saturdays 11-4.
