HAMILTON – Those looking to do some good this Spring need not look any further.
Hamilton Young People Empowered (HYPE) is partnering with Downtown Hamilton’s
own Almond Sisters Bakery to collect donations of individually-wrapped breakfast &
snack items along with bottled water, Gatorade and juice. These donations will be used
to provide breakfast and lunch options for the virtual learning students who spend their
day at HYPE. Pastor Shaquila Mathews, HYPE’s Founder/CEO, provides a safe
learning environment for students to spread out and receive one-on-one tutoring. HYPE
is not affiliated with the Hamilton City School District, and therefore, receives no
financial assistance making every donation they receive matter.

Jenni Hubbard, Co-Owner of the Almond Sisters Bakery, was eager at the opportunity
to partner with HYPE. “We LOVE the work Pastor Shaq has been doing in our
community”, says Hubbard. “Constantly I see her around town supporting the youth with
fun activities and games. She supports local small businesses too. She builds strong,
long-lasting relationships within the community and we are proud to stand beside her
and support any of her goals!”
The Almond Sisters Bakery is truly a gem in terms of Hamilton businesses. Aside from
being huge supporters of the Hamilton community, they are known for baking delicious
artisan breads, cookies, muffins and so much more throughout the week. Make sure to
support their business when you stop in with your donation.
Back in the winter, HYPE teamed up with Artspace to host a book drive to boost their, at
the time lacking, library collection. After no more than a month of porch pickups and
book drop offs at their 222 High Street Downtown location, the drive concluded with
astounding success. More than six hundred books were collected with the goal of
improving youth literacy in the Hamilton community. HYPE hopes to see a similar
outcome with the Spring Breakfast/Snack Drive.
The HYPE Spring Breakfast/Snack Drive runs from April 20th – May11th. All donations
of food and beverages may be dropped off at the Almond Sisters (224 High Street)
located in Downtown Hamilton.
