RiversEdge concert series launches Friday with three fan favorites
HAMILTON — This year’s RiversEdge concert series will open with a bang: Bishop Gunn is the main act along with local favorite Scotty Bratcher and Resonator on Friday night.
The show kicks off weekly performances at the amphitheater on the bank of the Great Miami River in downtown Hamilton. Barring any inclement weather, it’s bound to be a packed event: The concerts planned by a committee through the City of Hamilton tend to draw big crowds.
Not only are they attracting people because of a lineup of quality musicians, but because the shows are free. People who attend are invited to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets for the outdoor performances.
The RiversEdge series concerts usually have adult beverages for sale, food vendors and merch booths.
There are some musical events at the amphitheater this summer that will cost an admission fee. The Whimmydiddle Country Music Festival in mid-August requires paid tickets, as does David Shaw’s Big River Get Down in September. But patrons get their money’s worth: The acts include up-and-coming or well-known musicians.
Shaw, for example, is a Hamilton native whose band The Revivalists exploded in popularity with the hit song “Wish I Knew You.” The band performs all over the country and has even played at the famous Bonnaroo musical festival.
The Rivers Edge Concert Series for 2019 has an interesting lineup, including • ZoSo Led Zeppelin Experience on July 11• A KISS tribute on Aug. 1• A Michael Jackson tribute on Aug. 29
(More performances are listed at riversedgelive.com.)
On July 4, Chris Robinson Brotherhood with special guest Dumpstaphunk will take the RiversEdge stage for the “Jared’s Jam” event, which is a memorial concert for Jared Whalen, a popular Hamilton chef whose family planned the day with the City of Hamilton.
In typical series fashion, the season will wrap up with “Signs of Life: The American Pink Floyd” on Sept. 14.
In total, RiversEdge has 13 music events on its schedule now through September.
