“Bridging Neighborhoods” Event Aims to Unify Hamilton Residents
By: Jeff Gambrell
HAMILTON – A fun, family-friendly event will be taking place this Sunday from 4 – 7 pm on the High/Main Street Bridge in Downtown Hamilton. “Bridging Neighborhoods”, an idea that has been in the works for the last few years, will finally find life thanks to 17Strong’s Joanne Wallisch. Residents from Hamilton’s 17 distinct neighborhoods are invited to take part in this event as 43 tables and 272 chairs will be lined along the bridge’s northern lanes of traffic to host a city-wide picnic.
Bridging Neighborhoods was organized to coincide with National Good Neighbor Day (Sept. 28th) which falls into the same week. In recognition of the holiday, residents participating in Sunday’s event are asked to make an effort to sit at a table with someone they don’t know to encourage dialogue and learn from each other. The goal of the event is to break down barriers that exist within the community through story sharing. Live performances, food trucks, and a historic photo at 5:30 are to be expected at this event.
