What is Empty Bowls?
The November 5th Empty Bowls event is a grassroots effort to raise awareness and funds to combat hunger right here in the West Chester Liberty community. It also serves to raise awareness of the Arts through the handcrafted bowls, bags and placemats created especially for this event by Lakota students and staff, community artists, and organizations. The music at the event is provided by local musicians and students.
How does it help? All proceeds from this event will benefit Reach Out Lakota and The Faith Alliance Summer Lunch program. Reach Out Lakota serves an average of 1,500 individuals every month. The Faith Alliance Summer Lunch program serves lunch to 400 students Monday through Friday during the summer break.
How does it work?
- Register for the event here and pick a time to visit.
- Choose your own handcrafted ceramic bowl to take home at the conclusion of your lunch.
- Receive your choice of soup, bread, desserts and refreshments, all prepared exclusively for this event by local chefs and restaurants.
How did it begin? The original Empty Bowls program began 25 years ago in Michigan and the program has spread internationally.
