Venice Pavilion celebrates 100 years

Everyone is invited to celebrate Venice Pavilion 100 years celebration

After the 1909 fire destroyed the Och’s Tavern which stood on the site since 1817 the Herman Brothers were hired to build what would become a landmark and attraction in Butler County Ohio.

A Butler County Landmark

Walter and Stanley Schradin along with their mother Mollie owned the Venice Pavilion. The building had its grand opening on 4 of July. The basement had 3 bowling lanes and 4 billiard tables, the main floor had a soda fountain and a candy and tobacco shop and served fried chicken dinners. But the main attraction was the large dance floor on the second floor. It was an instant success for music and dancing.

Venice Pavilion Antique Mall celebrates 100 years

The Pavilion became the town’s most famous landmark and the place to be on a Saturday night with such performers as, Tex Ritter, the Carter Family, Justin Tubb,  Jim Ed Brown. Regularly the folks from the MidWestern Hayride would come relax and play.

In 1946 Paul and Dorothy Fiehrer purchased the Pavilion and continued to operate it as a Butler County attraction for more than forty years, drawing crowds of all generations until Paul Fiehrer died in May of 1987.

Dottie Grome saved the building and renovated the building keeping the wood floors and original tin ceilings and started Venice Antique Mall.

When Dottie retired in 2004, Skyp and Jana Harmon continued the antique business restoring the original name to Venice Pavilion Antiques. They are the caretakers of this historic building in the center of Ross, opening it daily for everyone to enjoy and step back in time.
