Summer fun for kids of all ages.
Butler Soil & Water Conservation District (Butler SWCD) is heading into the summer months, which means free summer programs for kids of all ages. Upcoming outdoor programs include Creeking in the Parks, Family Fun Fridays, and Stream Ecology Workshop.
Family Fun Fridays
Butler SWCD will once again partner with MetroParks of Butler County to hold the Creeking in the Parks program. Each Thursday during the months of June and July from 10 am to 12 pm, come visit various parks in Butler County to learn about fossils, water quality, and try to hunt for ‘critters’ that live in our local creeks. Detailed information with addresses of all the parks can be found on our website at www.butlerswcd.org. Also in conjunction with MetroParks of Butler County and OSU Extension, Butler SWCD will be participating in Family Fun Fridays. Every Friday in June and July from 10 am to 11:30 am, come out to Rentschler Forest to enjoy themed programs and activities for the family. Games and snacks will be provided.
Stream Ecology Workshop
For adults and teens who enjoy biology and/or ecology, Butler SWCD will be holding a Stream Ecology Workshop on Saturday, June 22 from 9 am to 11 am at Indian Creek Preserve in Reily Township. At the creek, participants will collect biological samples and identify macroinvertebrates which will then help to assess the overall health and water quality of the stream. This event will be held rain or shine. Registration is required so please go to our website to reserve your spot.
This summer, Butler SWCD is looking for a long- term volunteer to collect water samples in Middletown for Butler County Stream Team. Stream Team is a citizen science group that collects, analyzes, and reports water quality data from various waterways in Butler County. Volunteers collect water samples on the second Saturday of each month. Stream Team is a collaboration between Butler County residents, the Institute for the Environment and Sustainability at Miami University, the Butler County Storm Water District, and Butler Soil & Water Conservation District. If you are interested in sampling, please contact our office at email@example.com.
