Made to Love

HAMILTON – While strolling along Hamilton’s booming Downtown district, visitors will find themselves greeted by lively, family-owned businesses, each more unique than the next. One such business founded in 2010 at the dawn of Hamilton’s revitalization has a mission that goes beyond the city’s borders. Made to Love was conceptualized following a mission trip among family members and friends to Haiti briefly after the nation was devastated by an earthquake. Upon learning that an average of $250-$300 will cover educational expenses including tuition, uniforms, books and meals for a child for an entire year, co-founders Tony & Christin Harris and Shari Miller embarked on a journey to provide an opportunity for a better future for as many Haitian children as they could.

“Dream Big Fundraiser”

Initially, funds were raised through the designing and selling of t-shirts at various craft shows in the region. It wasn’t before long that word got around about this noble, international cause being promoted that they made the bold leap to expand their vision and start a storefront along Downtown Hamilton’s High Street. If you happen to stop by and see them today, t-shirts are just one of the many merchandise items you will be able to browse. The store now showcases Haitian-made artisan goods including various artwork, necklaces, bracelets, coffee, baby clothes and so much more!

As a means of furthering their mission while providing a fun, educational opportunity for the public, Made to Love is hosting their “Dream Big Fundraiser” this Thursday, April 25th at 6:30 PM. Those attending can expect to learn more about the good work being performed in Haiti by speaker Dr. Kelly Crowdis who has served long-term in Haiti with various projects including Give A Kid To A Kid. Restavek Freedom will also be present for attendees to take the Restavek Experience. Food, music and raffle baskets will also occur throughout the evening.

Co-founder Tony Harris expects that evening’s event to be a success. “We are excited for this event because we see how when we come together as a group of individuals for a cause, we can make a huge impact.  We see this in our store, as each sale, big or small, changes lives.  This event will help us to impact in even greater ways and provide some funds for some new projects like daily meals for our school kids and a fish project that could provide sustainable protein via fish for the school”, says Harris.

The Benison Event Center

Tickets are still available online for $40 each, or $50 at the door. This will be the first public event hosted at The Benison Event Center, a new Downtown space for meetings, celebrations, and charity functions housed at the site of a former historic bank.
