What is the vision for the future of one of Hamilton’s biggest inner-city ministries?

That’s the speech topic at New Life Mission’s 50th-anniversary event, a banquet called “Journey of Hope.” Director Felix Russo, who is also a pastor, will deliver that speech during the evening that also includes jazz music, dinner, guest speakers and prizes.

The impact of the April 9 banquet, Russo said, is “to help support the work of New Life Mission and to share our vision for the future.”
He wants to make sure New Life Mission continues its service in the city for another 50 years.
Hamilton Mayor Pat Moeller and Community Advocate Kathy Becker will speak to the state of homelessness and poverty in the City of Hamilton.
State Representative Sara Carruthers and representatives from Congressman Warren Davidson’s office will also be attending.

“The celebration is sponsored by the Courtyard by Marriott Hamilton, where the event will take place.” Russo said New Life Mission, which serves hot meals to those in need and provides a food pantry to families and individuals, was given a boost in publicity last year when he announced that it nearly had to close the doors last year. Donations went up, but the Mission remains in need of more monthly donors to continue to keep the doors open.

In addition to feeding the hungry, New Life Mission offers community service work opportunities to people who need to pay court fines and restitution, earn food stamp hours, have family service requirements or fulfill student academic requirements.
Volunteers are always needed at the Mission, which even offers community resource support to connect folks to things such as VA appointments, eyeglass assistance and utility assistance.

The April 9 “Journey of Hope” dinner event is open to anyone. Tickets are required. To discover more about New Life Mission’s purpose, go to its website at www.missionhamilton.org or visit the center at 415 Henry St.
