A partnership between Badin High School, The City of Hamilton Fire Department and Mercy Hospital – Fairfield Ohio is making Butler County’s only Catholic high school better prepared in case of an active shooter or other trauma.

Recently, Badin High School contacted the City of Hamilton Fire Department with the aspirations of having a trauma supply kit in every classroom.  Mark Mignery, EMS Coordinator with the City of Hamilton Fire department,  contacted Mercy Hospital to explore the possibility of a grant to cover the cost of the trauma kits and training.  Mercy Hospital is affiliated with Badin High School as the school’s sports medicine partner. After learning of the opportunity to provide a safer school environment the program was funded through a grant from the Mercy Hospital Foundation.  Mercy Hospital- Fairfield Ohio, Chief Operating Officer Shane Nicely, and Elaine Hemmelgarn, Director of Development Mercy Health Foundation, presented the check and attended the training program. “Providing trauma kits and training to the Badin High School staff is consistent with Mercy Hospital’s mission, which is to extend the compassionate ministry of Jesus by improving the health and well-being of our communities” stated Elaine Hemmelgarn

The Badin High Staff staff completed a two-part training program titled “Stop the Bleed.” The training consisted of classroom training and hands-on training for the staff. The City of Hamilton Fire Department designed and assembled the trauma kits. The kits contain medical supplies, bandages, gloves, tourniquets and other items necessary to stop the bleeding and provide life-saving time for first responders to arrive at the trauma scene.
