Recipes to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Is that delicious smell of holiday baking permeating your home?

One of my favorite times of the year is Thanksgiving and Christmas. All the many homemade treats are divinely delicious.  Whether you are making them for family and friends or you are taking them to co-workers.  Your homemade special treats bring with them a feeling of joy and warmth. Memories are being made with children as many of these treats making days are incorporating little ones learning to bake or just being great little helpers.  I have many wonderful memories of baking with my Mom.  Maybe my job was only to mix up the cinnamon sugar as I was too young to roll out the dough for the apple pies.  I felt important mixing the sugar. Those are sweet memories.

There are those favorite treats that are part of each holiday.  They have become the family tradition.  I want to share one of those delightful treats my adult children request at every holiday.  It is an easy, very sweet breakfast treat.

Holiday Recipe! It’s a keeper

For me, one of my holiday memories revolving around food is my mom’s orange salad.  Whenever I saw that lime green Tupperware Jello mold I knew it was going to contain my favorite Jello salad.  It always added a brightness to the collection of beautiful food spread.  The taste is a delightful creamy fruit combination.

Mother Metthe’s Orange Salad

1 large box Orange Jello

2 cups boiling water

½-1 cup cold water

Mix together with mixer

1 medium crushed pineapple

1 medium mandarin oranges

1-8oz cream cheese

1 small cool whip

Prepare Jello according to box instructions.  Then fold in mixture. Place in a mold and refrigerate for an hour or longer.

The many memories that revolve around the holidays are priceless. May your holiday season be filled with many wonderful memories and delicious food.
