Best Places to Have a Fun Day in West Chester

WEST CHESTER, OHIO – Are you considering a West Chester Staycation?  My family and I have decided to spend the summer exploring our home, Butler County.  This week we are going to explore West Chester Township.

One of the great reasons we decided to go the staycation route is to save a bit of money. We found many of these destinations have a deal day or specials to keep costs down.  We are super cheap in our family, so we visited on the deal day.

Voice of America Park
7850 VOA Park Dr, West Chester Township, OH 45069
This park is one of my favorite places in Butler County.  The lake is beautiful with a walking trail perfect for biking, skating and running.  There is a dog park on the Butler-Warren side where you and your puppy can play.  VOA has a nice playground.

There are plenty of fish in the lake if your family likes to catch.  A fishing permit is $7 per day or $16 per family. VOA also has a boathouse loaded with watercraft. If you have ever wanted to row, this is a very safe place to get a good starter experience. Pedal Boats are $15.oo for an hour. Single kayaks are $9.85 for an hour.  Tandem kayaks are $13.50 per hour. Stand Up Paddle Boards are $15.00 per hour.   The Wheelhouse is open Monday-Thursday 11:00am – 7:00pm.  Friday and Saturday 10:30am – 7:30pm. Sunday 12:30pm – 5:30pm.  These hours are through August 18th.

Keehner Park West Chester Keehner Park Creeking
7411 Barret Rd, West Chester Township
One hidden gem in West Chester is the East Fork of the Mill Creek down in the valley of Keehner Park.  There are trail heads behind the Keehner Park Amphitheatre and one behind one of the picnic shelters.  They are simply openings in the woods.  These trails lead you down the hill to the creek.  One of these trails has a well-kept staircase to make it easier to descend down the hill.  Walking up the creek, the opposite direction of the water flow is the best experience.  There are little waterfalls and tide pools that are great for exploration. Unless there is a big rain the water is never deeper than knee high on an adult.  Rain boots or crocs are what we wear to explore.   Bring a packed lunch and have a great day.

EnterTrainment Junction
7379 Squire Ct, West Chester Township
EnterTrainment is simply mind blowing. When you walk inside you know that it was created by someone who had a passion and love of trains. The displays and intricacy of detail are overwhelming.  Every time we visit the world’s largest train display, we see something new.

It is a great way to spend an entire day. In addition to the train display, they have an indoor play area called Imagination Junction, a giant play area (don’t forget socks) and several museum sections. Those are all included in the basic ticket. There are a lot of add-ons including the A-MAZE-N FUNHOUSE and an audio tour of the display,  that can get overwhelming if you are at the ticket window. My advice is to look at the options and buy your tickets online in advance. They also have Groupons sometimes to help with the cost of the visit.

Top Golf
9568 Water Front Dr, West Chester Township, OH 45069

Main Event
9477 Oxford Way, West Chester Township, OH 45069
A wonderful way to wear out the kids is a trip to Main Event.  Buy a pass early, from 9:00am to 10:30am during the summer and you pay $12.95 per person to play until 5pm. Main Event has bowling, billiards, mini golf, gravity ropes, lazer tag and more.

Skatetown
8730 N Pavilion Dr, West Chester Township, OH 45069
I love to bore my kids with ‘back in my day stories’ about skating parties when I was in school. Skatetown makes skating just as fun for my kids now as it as for me back in the day. They have a lot of open skate times for reasonable prices.  Check the websites for times.

The National Voice of America Museum of Broadcasting
8070 Tylersville Rd, West Chester Township, OH 45069
The Voice of America Museum is only open the third Saturday of the month from 1 -4pm, but it is worth making the time to go through. It was interesting to see the kids, who have had a phone in their hands since they were little understand how long it took to get the technology in their pocket. They learned about the history of broadcasting, how lucky they are in terms of technology and how important this area was to WWII.
