Presbyterian Church HamiltonMaundy Thursday Tenebrae Service
Thursday, April 13 at 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM

This has become a very popular Lenten event at the Presbyterian Church Hamilton and we encourage to you attend and participate in this meaningful worship experience.

“Tenebrae” means shadows and our worship will include and allow you to experience some of the shadows that Christ himself endured. As scripture is read, you will see candles extinguished and the sanctuary become darkened. At the close of the service, the bell will toll seven times, slowly and deliberately, to mark the fullness of the sufferings of Christ.

This service will involve our church leaders as scripture readers, congregational singing, and special music by our choir, the Celebration Singers. At the close of the service, everyone leaves in silence and quiet reflection on the suffering and death of our Savior. Although the story is the same, the music will be different, so it is always a new experience for all.

Good Friday Way of the Cross

Good Friday is the beginning of the culmination of the Lenten season. It is a day of reflection on the sacrifice of Christ in Calvary.  One of the most meaningful ways to celebrate this sacrifice is to follow Christ’s journey through the Way of the Cross.

A very special celebration of the Way of the Cross is happening in Downtown Hamilton on Good Friday, April 14th. The celebration begins at noon on the steps of the Butler County Court House on High Street. This Interdenominational event will be celebrated by over 30 churches from Butler County and surrounding areas.

The event was started by Pastor Doctor John Lewis from the Presbyterian Church Hamilton over 10 years ago.  Popularity has grown over the years – now hundreds of people come to Hamilton to walk the journey of Christ.

This outside event will be led by Pastors and Religious leaders, as they walk through seven stations in the city to a solemn drumbeat, being led by three crosses – representing the three crosses of Calvary. The stops are local churches and the Butler County Government Center.

The stops will reflect on the journey Jesus took from His betrayal and arrest, His judgment by Pontius Pilate, His beatings and pain, the people who loved Him and helped Him along the way and His passing from this world.
